Bible Text: Mark 4:13-20 |

Hearing and Believing the Word of God January 11, 2015

Mark 4:18-19 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Let’s not miss the best part. Live life more abundantly. God is a jealous God. We are for the good pleasure of His will. He wants His best for us.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof
are the ways of death.
There is one way for a godly man, it’s the mind of Christ. Going any way but faith in the word of God is wrong. What you saturate your life with, you will be like. It’s a fatal mistake to think that anything but faith can make you content. We want peace and joy. The only peace and joy you will ever have is in believing the word of God. What are you seeking to bring you peace and joy? The change for happiness does not come from the outside in but from the inside out (Jesus).
Many get lost trying to achieve a higher standard of living. Building bigger barns won’t satisfy, it will bring leanness to your soul. What did Lot get for choosing with his own eyes? Are we making steps toward more truth? When you move toward the things of the world you’ve made a wrong step. When you make steps towards more truth you can never go wrong.
Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
We need to be encouraged with truth, we are bombarded with lies all week long.
Every man is doing what is right in his own eyes. There is no such thing as the last best deal. We can think we need this or that, but like Samson, those ‘Delilah’s are just loss. The satisfaction is when Christ is our life.
1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
John 16:33 . . . In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
What got Job through? Even in such sorrow he had a tenderness, he had an ear that heard the Word.
Job 42:5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.
Job 42:12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning:
It’s the finish that counts, and what will determine it is what your ear is set to. What are our affections set on? I want a triumphant finish. Finish with a double portion. Turn your ear to the word of God today. It gives you abounding hope. There is a lot of lie and hate in our world today. Cerebral ones will try to get you with man’s thoughts. Racists will get you with color; legalists try with self-righteousness; and carnal ones with entertainment and worldly causes.
God help us, with what we know, how tragic it would be at the end to know we wasted it. Don’t be so hard that the Word is choked. Stay with the truth. Jesus Christ, the Word, the Way, the Truth, the Life.
