Bible Text: John 6:66-68 |

Hear the Words of Eternal Life           January 14, 2018

John 6:66-68  From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.  67.  Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?  68.  Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Jesus was ministering the word, speaking to them that He was the bread of life. But as He continued to speak to them, some things were difficult for them to understand, and many quit.

Aren’t we thankful we know He has the words of eternal life!

In this time, we see so many with smooth tongues deceiving silly and itching ears. They have silver tongues, but just vain words, with philosophy abounding, and no words of eternal life. They just focus on themselves, and encourage with good thoughts. You don’t hear about praying, or worshipping God, just man’s words that sound right to itching ears, but will just rob you and send leanness. It is vital that we go to the word of God. Go to the scriptures for everything.

Man’s speech is about destination, dwelling here, and satisfying your flesh. It’s foolish to think man’s way is going to show us our destiny. Our destiny is the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (your vocation). You live by the faith of the Son of God. He brings power, love, and a sound mind. Man is not our leader, the Spirit is. He inspires us to win the race. We need to have an ear that hears what the Spirit says. King Ahab loved to hear positive things. He brought in false prophets to tell him what he wanted to hear. He didn’t want to hear God’s prophet.

1 Kings 22:6-8  Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.  7  And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?  8  And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

Never think the word of God is against you, it is only for you. The words of eternal life. You better always want to hear from the word of God. Often they are things we don’t want to hear. But they will change your life.

2 Peter 3:15-16  . . . even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;  16.  As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Some things Paul said were hard to be understood by those that wrestle with the truth. Wrestling is not wanting to hear it, it’s called unbelief. The word of God is our lifeline, it’s our guide. Today’s preaching is just a new spin on prosper and be in health. There are many false prophets telling harmful things – man’s philosophy instead of doctrine. Charlatans encouraged by the enemy to steal, kill and destroy, to lay down your crown because it’s too hard. The crown we have must be the most dear thing we have in our lives. Hold on by hearing Paul’s gospel. There is nothing to be compared to ruling and reigning with Jesus Christ – glorified together. You have to have power from on high to walk in it. The Holy Spirit will take you on.

Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

His words build godly character, good soldiers that endure hardness. Faith is holding you right, even in our weakest times. His words chasten and challenge, but they are words that shape us into jewels, they build a masterpiece of grace for Him. You can be thankful in all these things. Awaken more to the words of eternal life. To whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
