Bible Text: II Samuel 12:13-24 |

Stay with the Anointed January 28, 2018

2 Samuel 12:13-24 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. 14. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die . . . 16. David therefore . . . lay all night upon the earth. 17. And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. . . . 19. But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead . . . 24. And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
You can only be at rest in this with eyes like the cherubim, fixed on the mercy seat. Don't look at man. This wasn't just adultery and murder, it was against Uriah who was one of David's mighty men. Nathan tells David his child is going to die. The enemies make a mockery of the grace of God. The first ones to come to David were the elders of his house. Their first instinct was to pray and seek the Lord, to restore him. The whispering servants didn't help at all. The elders lived the resurrection power, to raise a brother.
Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
It's resurrection power to lift weak hands and feeble knees. This meeting goes on because of the love in grace saints that stay with God's anointed, which is His Word. They love the whole counsel of God. God restored David. Bathsheba lost her husband and her child but she stayed with the anointed. She not only didn't leave, but she became his wife. She was the one who would give birth to Solomon the king. How could God do something like that? There was no mockery to God, He magnifies one thing - grace. Grace is not merited, earned, or deserved. I will never be separated from God. This will not sit right with those who are against the grace of God. Have a heart like Bathsheba and the elders. Go on by the grace of God no matter what the cost or humiliation. When I get my eyes off mercy, I become an enemy. There are going to be times of great challenge. Don't think it strange. Do you want to be faithful or full of faith? I want to be full of faith in the One who is faithful. God's way is stirring it up. Stephen was full of faith and full of the Holy Ghost. God used him to shake it up, to break up the fallow ground and encourage (Acts 6&7). True worshipers are lovers of the truth, lovers of the brethren. They are spiritual. God will make sure our going on is not about a man. It's a grace way. Let's just go on. There is more to see every day. That our love would increase more and more for one another.
1 Thessalonians 3:12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
The enemies of the truth will mock but the lovers will always restore.
