The Deep Things of God March 11, 2018
Ezekiel 47:1-5 Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. 2 Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. 3 And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. 4 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. 5 Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.
The waters spoken of in verse 1 are from the threshold. It comes from a root word meaning to twist; an asp (from its contortions). It speaks of the cross. Jesus was the serpent upon the cross. A healing stream flows from Calvary that is free to all.
John 3:14-15 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
With each 1000 cubits is shown another glory (1,000 = the glory of God).
Ankles – comes from a root word meaning to disappear, be clean gone. The ankles represent us, as Christians, starting out with God. This speaks of salvation. When we are saved, our sins are clean gone.
Micah 7:19 . . . and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
We all start at the ankles. Many just get their feet wet and stay there. Don’t get bogged down with the things here. Know Him and take what He has for you. In verse 4, the waters were to the knees. Knees comes from a root word meaning to kneel; to bless God (as an act of adoration). This is worship. As we go on we see His love, how He gave us everything in His Son, so we want to worship Him. The next waters were to the loins. The Loins are the fruitful part of the body. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. In verse 5 it was waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. Get into the waters, get into the depth of the Word of God. Jump in and go swimming, you’ll miss out if you stop at the ankles. River comes from a root word meaning to inherit. We have an inheritance that God wants us to have. It’s so much you can’t pass over!
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Get into the deep things. The Holy Spirit will enlighten your eyes.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
Go after it! Get in the deep water and search it out. Compare scripture with scripture, ask God; go to Bible studies where the whole counsel of God is preached.
Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
What is meant by deep things? Not only life but life more abundant (John 10:10)
Not only salvation but salvation with eternal glory (2 Tim. 2:10) Not only joy but a full joy (John 15:11)
Not only a reward but a full reward (2 John 1:8) Not only knowledge but a full knowledge (1 Tim. 2:4)
Not only righteousness but an exalted rank of righteousness (2 Tim. 4:8)
Not just before the throne but in the midst and round about the throne. (Rev. 4 & 7)
Colossians 4:12 . . . that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
There are many examples of deep things in the Word, such as: Adam and Eve, and the
cherubim in the Tabernacle – as types of the bride of Christ. The Lord wants us to see these deep things in His word. We need to be full of the Spirit to know them.
Romans 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Like the river you can’t pass over, there are unsearchable riches to swim in.
Ephesians 3:8-9 . . . the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
There is hidden treasure in the water. Go after it. Say, “I will go” and He will do it. He wants all to have His best. Go after the deep things of God. Let’s go swimming!
Colossians 2:2-3 . . . Christ; 3. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
