Bible Text: Acts 3:1-8 |

The Name of Jesus                  March 19, 2017

“There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth, it sounds like music in mine ear, the sweetest name on Earth”.

Acts 3:2-8  And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

What power in the name of Jesus! In Jesus name is all it took. He leaped and praised God. In that name there is over the top power. But because of this Peter and John were brought before the Council.

Acts 4:7-12  And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?  8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazarethdoth this man stand here before you whole...  12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The powers that be were angry. But Peter shared the power that is in Jesus’ name. The only name we are saved by. Don’t be stingy about asking. God rejoices to give what you ask that is good.

John 14:13-14  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do

1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

God doesn’t give us things partially, He wants us to have a full joy, full salvation, full assurance, full knowledge, and a full reward. Give thanks to Him in all things.

Ephesians 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Do all things in the name of the Lord, with thankfulness. Believing in His name (Acts 3:16, Matthew 7:21-23) His way is always best.

Colossians 3:17  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Jesus, a name above every name. I am looking forward to that day when God puts down those that don’t believe. This will bring glory to the one we love the most!

Philippians 2:9-11  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  10.  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  11.  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Just call out to Jesus. It doesn’t have to be a flowery prayer. He will make our fears depart.

Call out to Him in a more intimate way.

Song of Solomon 1:3  Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

You can be in a dark place, but His name brings light He wants you to know Him intimately, not a far off.

Revelation 3:12  Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

The Lamb’s wife. This is marriage talk.

Revelation 3:9  . . . I will make them . . . to know that I have loved thee.

What is the greatest way that a man make known to all that he loves a woman? By taking her as his wife. Learn of Him. He wants us to know Him. Read the Word, hear the Word and you’ll fall in love with Him!
