Bible Text: II Kings 22:1-2, 23:23-25... |

Go After It                        May 19, 2019

2 Kings 22:1-2  Josiah waseight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name wasJedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.  2  And he did that which wasright in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

Josiah had a wicked father and a wicked grandfather. They had gotten so far from the word of God. Yet, God is faithful and He knew a heart would come, an 8 year old boy. Hilkiah found the book of the law of the Lord and it wasread tothe king.

2 Kings 23:23-25  But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, whereinthis passover was holden to the LORD in Jerusalem.  24  Moreover the workers withfamiliar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.  25  And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there anylike him.

He came from an ungodly history, but when the entirety of the word of God was shown to him, no one, even king David, went after it like Josiah. How could he exceed all the kings before and after him? He was tender and humble.

2 Kings 22:19a  Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD,

He didn’t go after a man – it was the word of God. He delighted in the truth. The word of God moved him, it was everything.

2 Kings 22:13b  . . .because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

He was encouraged in all that was written. God has given us His entire word at this time. We follow Paul as he followed Christ. He was the wise master builder, but we do not follow the man, we follow the gospel of Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:9-11  For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye areGod's building.  10  According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.  11  For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

There is no other gospel that builds the bridal message in you.

Josiah walked in the way of David his father – truth, light, rejoicing, a perfect way – but he walked in his own shoes and received all of it and even more. He excelled like Elisha’s double portion. The truth is all there, but we can walk in more light of it. The Holy Ghost takes the things of Christ and shows them to you. God’s people are getting complacent, and don’t think there could be more. God brought, through Josiah, the much the more. We are either going to be stuck in the past or enjoying the much the more. You weren’t made to wave a palm; you were made to hold a crown. We rejoice and praise God for the ruling and reigning gospel. Receive it. If you don’t take it, it will pass you by. Who are you gathering with? Those of like precious faith? Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. There were those that benefited, but then there were those like Josiah. The word of God has always been that way – it struck just a few. Its pouring glory, stand under the waterfall. You’ve got an invite to the well. Just step right on over!
