Bible Text: Acts 2:36-41 & 47... |

Receive and Grow                  May 26, 2019

Acts 2:36-38, 41  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ  . . . 38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, 41  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto themabout three thousand souls.

Receiving the word of God gladly, then saved.

Acts 8:14-17  Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:  15  Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:  16  (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)  17  Then laid they theirhands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

They received the word of God and then moved on to the infilling of the Holy Ghost. In order to receive something, it must be taught, heard, and taken.

Isaiah 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thingwhereto I sent it.

His grace puts the desire in your heart, then His truth comes by hearing the word of God – the foolishness of preaching.

Romans 10:13-15  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  14  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent?

Without the message (teaching), there can never be a vision of it. Those that know Paul’s gospel (the bridal message), either heard it taught or had literature.

Acts 19:1-2  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,  2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

These were believers but had never heard of the Holy Ghost. If you are not taught it, you will never receive it. You only grow up in Christ by hearing the word of God from those who know the word. You need to know the bridal message to be in the bride of Christ. You need to be filled with the Holy Ghost and He will lead you into all truth. You can’t grow up without the word, and Jesus is not going to marry a baby. Just like in a natural family, the children are heirs but the wife is the joint-heir.

Romans 8:17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Matthew 8:13  And Jesus said . . .as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.

1 Thessalonians 2:13  For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received itnot asthe word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

They received the word of God and it worked effectually in them. God’s word is speaking to you right now. You can know this because you are hearing it. So once you know, don’t doubt it, and get away from those who don’t want it.

Acts 17:10-11   These (Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

They were more noble because they received it with readiness of mind. They searched out the Old Testament scriptures. Adam & Eve, Genesis 24, Noah, the Shulamite, etc. Paul’s gospel popped up all over in the Old Testament. Readiness = noble, a king’s mind. If you go in as a servant, you will come out with a palm. Paul’s gospel is about a crown. Let the mind of Christ be in you. Have a mind of ruling and reigning with Him. Dwell in it. Take what He’s made you and given you. A readied wife – readiness of mind. The Comforter has come. The Lamb’s wife has made herself ready.
