Bible Text: II Samuel 12:1-14 |

Call it What it Is   May 31, 2015

2 Samuel 12:1 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David . . .
This was after David’s failure with Bathsheba. He tried to fix this up with his own efforts, even murdering Uriah. God sent the prophet – His word.
2 Samuel 12:7-10 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 8 And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. 9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
What a hefty price to pay when we devise our own ways. The enemy will tell us that it’s just a little thing, or its ok because everyone is doing it – but a little leaven leavens the whole lump. May we have a Nathan that speaks to us in our stiff necked, hardened way to not be stubborn. Don’t delay – Call it what it is. We are in the age where we disguise things, saying it isn’t what it is. If it’s a devil, call it a devil. Don’t enter into the lie of good God, good devil, good everything. Don’t enter into the ‘demonic compromise’. We don’t have time for that.
Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
When we dance around a subject, we live in denial. Israel danced around the Promised Land and never entered in. If we don’t address it we’ll walk around in circles. Quit enabling sin in our homes. We must begin to make a stand. Compromise is getting thick. If we choose with our eyes and our will, it will be like Lot’s life - a complete disaster. It’s got to be the word of the Lord and His love that motivates. Let the Lord reign in you. Be thankful. Get your eyes off of yourself. The enemy will try to get you to look at anything but the word of God. God’s word will chasten and correct you. He wants us to walk in the truth. When you plant the seeds of sin and disobedience, what do you think you will reap? Wake up. If you want an overcoming life, you better plant the whole counsel of God and live it. Fight the good fight of faith. Endure hardness as a good soldier. Fire, pressure and cutting make a diamond. If we are to be a diamond it’s going to be a way of suffering. But if we are really in love we will focus on the joy, not the suffering. David realized the only one that could search him was the word of God.
Psalms 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
We have the whole counsel of God searching us if you want it. He is searching for those who worship in spirit and truth. Lovers of truth, lovers of the word. When He searches you, you must be in love; because two things happen: First, it gets mighty ugly seeing the wretched man that I am. Second, the separation from the camp gets painful. But it’s His love! How much do you love Him? He’s too ravishing, I can’t say no to that. Lord cause this life to be willing to lay it down. Don’t think the trials are strange. It’s not pretty to the naked eye like Jesus’ suffering on the cross. But the beauty of it all is His suffering for me and our suffering together with Him.
