Bible Text: I Samuel 16:3-13 |

See Things the Way the Lord Does        August 18, 2019

1 Samuel 16:3-13  And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me himwhom I name unto thee.  4  And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?  5  And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.  6  And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed isbefore him.  7  But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seethnot as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.  8  Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.  9  Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.  10  Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.  11  And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thychildren? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.  12  And he sent, and brought him in. Now he wasruddy, andwithal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this ishe.  13  Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

It's Gods choice. God looks on the heart. Jesus sees what no one else does. He is looking at the heart that is sincere, that sees its need; a humble heart in awe of Him. Like ones at camp that no one could imagine would be filled with the Spirit; but God didn’t have to imagine. The foreknowledge of God knows who will be touched and who will be indifferent and hard. Quit sizing up and seeing things with our eyes. God is love and He never withholds anything good from us. This truth can transform anybody in any state. God’s choice is never man’s choice. Did anyone imagine Esther would be the queen? That a small boy would defeat a giant? Why would God choose prostitutes and adulterers? Gideon? Don’t be like the Pharisee thinking you are better than others.

Luke 18:11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

We don’t know what is in the heart of ones that come to church. Be glad for lives that love the truth. Don’t see the outward appearance of others but see God’s mercy. And quit looking at your own outward appearance, wishing you were different; or being ashamed. The enemy wants you to be buried in discouragement. If you really love the truth, and you are sincere about the bridal message, there is no greater rejoicing. You love His appearing and then the crown looks mighty fine on you. Begin to see and love what He loves, with the eyes of the truth, not natural eyes. He tells us, “Thou art beautiful”. Loving this gospel causes you to be lovely to Him. Don’t try to get better or fix your life – He does that. Know who we are in Christ. The word of His grace makes us stunning for Him. All the beauty that is in every one of us is all the glory of Him, shining back on Him. There is treasure in these vessels.
