Bible Text: Galatians 4:1 |

More than Servants            September 4, 2016

Galatians 4:1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
The children of God are born with all the potential to grow up as a joint-heir with Christ but as long as they remain a child they are no more than a servant.
Galatians 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
God does not want you to remain a child (a servant), He wants you to grow up. He wants mature sons.
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Get your eyes off the world and on the Word. We are the aristocracy of forever! You have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ. There is more than being an heir of God. Grow in all truth, be full of the Holy Spirit – know Paul’s gospel. Our citizenship is in heaven. If we get entangled with the affairs of this life, we won’t be ready. He wants us fully grown.
Disciple = “to accept and preach doctrine”. We are disciples of Paul’s gospel – it’s not about serving, it’s about love.
John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
We have the Holy Ghost who takes the things of Christ and shows them to us. Why do some think that God had sons so He could have servants? Our flesh wants to do something to be pleasing to God. What can a lump of clay do? Nothing – just be molded by the Master’s hand.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
God had sons so He could have fellowship, especially with mature sons. We don’t have kids to be our servants, we have them to love. We have friends to have fellowship and companionship. We get married for love, to share everything. We grow up because we are loved. Mature sons become that way because they honor and love their parents. True friends encourage you in the Lord.
Love is what Jesus is about and that is what wins Him. We need to know truth but without love you will grow cold. When you lose the Spirit at the altar, it dies out. He is passionate 24/7, let Him supply you. The four living ones, the bridal company, are worshipers. Worship = “drawing nigh in fervent love to kiss”. There is a longing for that first-love fellowship. Be thankful He gave us this message, and an ear to hear it. Think about your life, all the things that brought you here, to hear this message – you need Jesus. Paul was a servant of Jesus Christ, a prisoner of Jesus. He was a prisoner of the love of Jesus. It caused Paul to do things he never would have done. First love does this.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
First-love causes you to want to be in church, to read the bible. Martha, quit being a troubled servant, go on and win the Bridegroom. Lay down the palm innumerable one, go after the crown. True worshippers draw nigh to kiss not serve. I could do all things but without love it profits nothing (I Corinthians 13:1-3). Come on true lovers, let’s worship and settle down at His feet!
