Bible Text: John 17:24 |

Be With Me        September 6, 2015

John 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me:
Glory‌ means majesty, beauty, splendor, greatness, grandeur, brilliance, radiance, magnificence. You could go on but you really can’t define His glory with words. God reveals it to us, and His creation testifies of it.
Proverbs 8:31 . . . and my delights were with the sons of men.
This speaks of the pre-incarnate Christ. Jesus’ delight is with the sons of men to be with Him. Not just to be near, or to accompany Him but something much closer, a union, even completeness. In the opening verse Jesus prayed “that they may behold my glory” but the better part is to be glorified together with Him. (Romans 8:17). The closeness of two being made one. That’s how Jesus wants us to be with Him – to be one with Him.
Genesis 2:18, 21-24 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Adam and Eve are typical of Christ and His wife. Jesus is the second Adam and the church is His body, like Adam’s rib, just a portion will be taken out from the body as His bride.
Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
God had given Adam and Eve one commandment, do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But the serpent beguiled Eve.
Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Adam was with her but he was not deceived.
1Tim. 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Adam knew what was going on, he loved his wife and didn’t want to be separated from her even if it meant death. Jesus died for us. Man fell by deception but Jesus fell by love.
Matt 13:45-46 the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Jesus was equal with God but came down seven steps to the death of the cross to get that pearl. (Phil. 2:6-8)
It was not forced, look at the words in the verses - He made Himself, He took, He humbled Himself. He did it all willingly, all because of His great love, to be with us.
2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
He endured the cross for the joy set before Him, for His bride.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus . . . who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
He sat down at God’s right hand and He is praying for you, and preparing a place for you. He will come again to bring you together with Him.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
He wants her to come with Him.
Song of Solomon 4:8 Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards.
Lebanon means "white" and speaks of salvation. He wants her to go on to more (with Him). In the Song of Solomon 4:6 He is at the mountain of myrrh, which speaks of Christ's suffering. If we go on with Jesus there will be suffering. He has to make us weak so we will lean on Him and worship Him, to be joint-heirs!
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Put Him first and the rest will fall into place. Say, “Yes Lord, I want your best”. Jesus wants us more than anything else. The King will not take His throne until His bride is with Him. In the throne with Him (Rev. 4:6) – His ultimate desire. Don’t you want to be with Him? He’s given everything for us. Have the Lord be as close as possible in your life!
