Bible Text: II Samuel 9:1-13 |

Restoration           October 2, 2016

2 Samuel 9:1-13 And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake? . . . And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. . . . 6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant! 7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? . . . As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons. . . . 13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet.

We have in David the testimony of our Saviour to us. This is sixteen years after Saul and Jonathan were slaughtered. All David wanted to do was show mercy and love; to restore. This causes us to rise up, not in pride but thankfulness. When we really want restoration with God we must first lay ahold of the heart of our Saviour, His mercy.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Notice who gets the mercy. It’s the wounded, lame one. He was given to eat at the king’s table continually. We don’t see any miracle of healing in this story but that was the better way. We’ve all had experience of such comforting mercy. Times when we should have been completely cast off – but God. He said, “I will never cast you out”. He never gave up, He stayed faithful. He always has a readied feast. He absolutely loves and adores you! He wants to do everything for you. When we see this, why don’t we remain in this place? He will let you know, there needs to be restoration. Return to the king’s table. Be strengthened with the beauty of His mercy and grace. Praise Him for His love and goodness to you. God so perfectly constructed your life because He wants you to come and feast. He will change your tears of sorrow to tears of joy. Cries of pain become shouts of victory. I’m thankful He shows me I need Him. He says, Count your blessings. We are blessed with all spiritual blessing (Eph. 1:3). His promises are yea and amen (II Cor. 1:20).

Romans 8:37 in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Through all the tears an anointing comes over your life and remains. It could not have been received but for the trials. He revealed it and showed Himself faithful in the truth we’ve heard. Like Ruth said, “Intreat me not to leave thee” (Ruth 1:16). I’m not leaving, it’s too wonderful. The trial made me brand new. I have a new song. We have confidence and boldness in His mercy and grace. The Lord is for me. Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world (I John 4:4). I was a ‘dead dog’ but now I’m the King’s son and eat at the King’s table continually. Don’t wait for Him to bring the trial. Mature sons of God Go! Get back to that place of restoration.
