Bible Text: Psalm 46:10 |

                                                  Be Still                                               October 15, 2017

Psalms 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God:

Everything that is going on in the world is anything but still. There are earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, etc. Also, countries are threatening each other, people are demonstrating, and more. That’s all on the outside, think of the things going on in our own minds. Things that are troubling us such as illness, unsaved loved ones, jobs, etc. But what does God say, “Be still”! We can be still if we know He is God.

Matthew 24:6-8  And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, …  8.  All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Jesus is telling them you will hear of these things, and this is the same for the day we are living in now also. Be not troubled, these things must come to pass. Like the recent shootings, we don’t like it, but it’s a sign of the times, Jesus is coming soon! This earth is like a woman travailing with birth pains. The pains get more intense and closer together – soon a nation will be born in a day. Not by their faithfulness, but His.

2 Timothy 3:1-5  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  2.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

We can see these things happening now. Pleasure is ok unless you put it before Jesus in your life. So much disrespect these days, the whole world lieth in wickedness (1 John 5:19), and it won’t get better until Jesus returns and straightens it out. We are either in Christ or in the world. Jesus has chosen us out of the world (John 15:19). The wicked cannot rest.

Isaiah 57:20-21  But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.  21.  There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

But we can be still and know that He is God! He says, I am God

Isaiah 45:22  . . . I am God, and there is none else.

Isaiah 46:9  . . . I am God, and there is none like me,

Hosea 11:9  . . . for I am God, and not man;

Our nation is following the footsteps of Israel.

Deuteronomy 8:10-14  When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God  11.  Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God,

We’ve been blessed (Israel had the promised land) but now we are taking it for granted. People are puffed up, forgetting the Lord. We should be thankful.

Deuteronomy 8:17-18  And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.  18.  the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth,

We don’t need to set forth petitions, or put right the guy in office. We just need to be still and learn His word. Have a smile so people ask, how? – and we can say, “Jesus”! We don’t need to care about what the world is doing, we care about what the Lord’s doing.

Judges 21:25  In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in

Romans 3:18  There is no fear of God before their eyes.  No reverence.

We are the sons of God, lights to the world. Complaining is the world’s way.

Philippians 2:14-15  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  15.  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Jesus is coming soon. He wants us to have His best. Just love His appearing.

Romans 8:31-32  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  32.  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

He loves us and is for us!

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

We have comfort in the scriptures. He gives us hope! There is nothing the word of God cannot meet.

Philippians 4:6-7  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  7.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

We can be battled in our minds, thinking we just fail and will never be ready. But look at the positive. We are given all we need. The word is true. He’s coming soon! Be still and know that He is God, He finished it!
