Bible Text: Matthew 6:25-34 |

Seek the Kingdom of God First            June 19, 2016

Matthew 6:25-34 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Our life is more than about things. We can’t add one day/minute/second to our life. This puts everything in perspective and is the answer to life. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be, just seek the kingdom of God first and His righteousness. It’s more, a double portion. Take it all.
2 Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness (exalted rank of righteousness), which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Jesus is your provider, not you. He has given you everything. You are now a son of God. Grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Grow in righteousness. Commit your children to God by committing your life to God. Have confidence in the Lord, stand on the Word of God in your home – that’s the testimony. Seek the kingdom of God first. Fight the battle every day – on your knees. Don’t try to go your own way, a little confidence in man will lead you down a long, lonely road. Why seek your own way when God says my grace is sufficient – exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think. Why live below what God has provided? What are riches if you spend less time with your children, or a big mortgage if it just causes stress and arguments? A godly home is priceless. Be content with Jesus. Trust the Lord to lead our homes. Are you a spiritual encouragement to your family? It only takes one generation to depart from the high calling message. God is a jealous God. He loves us! It’s not worth pursuing worldly gain if it starves your family spiritually. Our actions and manner of life speaks to our family. Is my testimony engaged in my home? We want to give our kids everything and we worry. But verse 34 says not to: (Take therefore no thought for the morrow…). Don’t worry about tomorrow. Seek Him first – love His appearing. Launch out in faith. Real men follow Jesus. They pray, worship, and get their kids to Sunday school. Our kids have a legacy – Jesus; and a heritage – the blood of Jesus. Why live the ‘fool for the devil life’? Don’t live lies when we have it all! All things added to me!
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
