Bible Text: John 3:16 |

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told                 July 30, 2017

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Father so loved, He completely gave us Jesus, the one He so cherished. As a dad I couldn’t give up my son, but He is God and He gave His Son fully and freely to you and me. But that is just the beginning of the greatest love story ever told. He didn’t just give Him to us, but He gave Him to die for us – to be made sin for us on a cross of shame. They beat Him, spit on Him, and mocked Him.

Isaiah 52:14  . . . his visage was so marred more than any man,

Jesus gave up the ghost to die for you.

Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

He was separated from His Father. When all horror was to come on Him, He just had joy. All because He so loved.

John 15:13  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

He not only died but He took our sin. We are redeemed by the blood of Jesus. That’s still just the beginning of the love story. He loved us so much, He was willing to depart from us and send us the Holy Ghost.

John 16:7  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient (profitable) for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Earlier He had said, “The Comforter is with you and shall be in you.”

John 16:12  I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

There was more to the love story. They were going to be filled with the Holy Ghost to know the truth and have the love of God shed abroad in their hearts. To give them power.

John 16:13-14  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.  14.  He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

You need to know the word of God. He wants you to know Him. Filled with the Holy Ghost, He will make it yours and show you what you have. Now you need to hear Paul’s gospel. The prophets wrote these things for us. (1 Peter 1:12) The Holy Ghost is given to us so we can know Him.

Philippians 3:10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

The gospel given to Paul was hidden but now is made known – that Jesus Christ is going to have a bride. This calling is to you. You have to read the love letters to know Him. Hearing His voice, the Lover of my soul. This is the love that sets us apart to Him. You love Him because He first loved you. Grow up, know His love for you.

Ephesians 3:19  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Do you believe the King of kings and Lord of lords?

Mark 13:32  But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

One thing Jesus doesn’t know is the moment His Father will say, “Go get your bride.”

He sits at the right hand of the Father, as a lover, asking, “Father, can I go get her?”

There is no other gospel. We are separated out from among the camp.

Song of Solomon 2:10  My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
