Bible Text: Hebrews 1:1-3 |

God’s Last Word        September 27, 2015

There are many examples of last words in the bible. One of the last things Abraham said unto his servant, go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
Genesis 25:5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
Abraham, like God gave everything to his son.
John 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Jacob’s last words were the blessings he spoke to his twelve sons.
Genesis 49:33 And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.
When Joseph was about to die he knew by faith God would visit the children of Israel.
Hebrews 11:22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
At the end of his life Moses blessed the twelve tribes.
Deuteronomy 33:1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
Joseph received the double portion; two tribes Ephraim and Manasseh. Joshua’s last words were:
Joshua 24:15. . . choose you this day whom ye will serve . . . but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
David’s last words were how God took him from a shepherd to a king, and had him write encouraging psalms by the Spirit. In Psalms, such as Psalm 22, 40, 69, and 110, David was inspired to write Jesus’ words.
2 Samuel 23:1-2 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, 2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
All of these are examples of the last words of ones in the bible. All the word of God is the unfolding of who God is, then in the last days He has spoken by His Son.
Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son . . . 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, (the exact representation)
God’s last Word is Jesus.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word is log'-os= something said (including the thought); God wants us to know Him. In the Old Testament they heard God’s voice and saw His acts. Moses even knew His ways. But now, at last, Logos – we can know His thoughts through His Son. Jesus dwelt among us as a man, He sympathizes with us.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
We see the grace of God in the O.T, but Jesus is grace.
John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared (revealed) him.
One of the most wonderful things Jesus declared to us about God is that He is our Father. Jesus said He is “My Father and your Father”. The only way to know the Father is through the Son.
Matthew 11:27 . . . no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
Jesus came to represent His Father, and do what the Father said.
John 8:28 . . . I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
When we see Jesus’ compassion, tenderness, healing power, and meeting natural needs, it shows the heart of God. The only way to God is Jesus!
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
God loves to give. It’s not by our works that we receive anything from God. God gave us everything in His Son.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Everything is in Jesus, so that’s what we need to focus on! We can learn about God from the Old Testament scriptures but if you really want to know Him get to know the Word – Jesus!
