Bible Text: Acts 8:26-38 |

Be Humble and Receive All Truth              November 20, 2016

Acts 8:26-38  And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go . . . And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority . . . had come to Jerusalem for to worship . . . And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?  31  And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? . . .  Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus . . . And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Acts 19:1-6  Paul came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,  2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost . . . 6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Acts 18:24-28  And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures . . . he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord . . . whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

One brother received salvation, one the Holy Ghost, and one the high calling message.

There is a common thread in each of these testimonies, there were no questions asked, no arrogance, just complete humility to receive God’s word. The grace of God quickens a heart to be humble and receive truth. The eunuch was a powerful man but he needed the grace of God to be humble. He was teachable. People don’t like to admit that they don’t know.

This second group admitted they never heard of the Holy Ghost. They had a heart that said teach me, and were humble to receive. They said I want that and God met that desire.

John 7:17  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine,

God wants us to know all truth.

1 Timothy 2:4  God will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

We naturally want nothing to do with God. It has to be the grace of God. Always be ready to hear the word of God. Search the scriptures. Be a vessel always open to receive truth. This is the time of all truth. Apollos was a humble man, he was willing to have the word of God expounded to him more perfectly. He never stopped learning. Our Father wants us to grow in grace and knowledge of His Son (2 Peter 3:18). Just sit at His feet and let Him love you. When we are really in love we don’t stop learning, we pant for more. Be thankful for ministering saints. I don’t know anything but Christ in me knows everything! Be willing to hear and learn more. Not competing with others, but running to win Him. Letting brethren supply. Lord, help us to be humble. If in error, be thankful to God that He showed you truth. If you step away from truth you’ll believe a lie. Let the truth be your anchor. The Rock that is higher than I. We are not born knowing truth, we must be taught by the Spirit. God does it by the foolishness of preaching (1 Cor. 1:21). Hearing the Word of God by grace through faith. He gives grace to the humble.
