Bible Text: Hebrews 4:16... |

Mercy                               July 14, 2019

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

How could you not fall in love with this verse? He is telling us that He wants to share in everything in our lives because He cares. What a lover – 24x7, moment by moment. The Father is seeking the true worshippers who worship in spirit and truth for His Son. When you are in love like that you can’t stop looking at that first love.

Song of Solomon 2:9  My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.

He can’t deny Himself.

Song of Solomon 1:2  Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love isbetter than wine.

The Word is too tremendous. Look into the eyes of our love. He is calling out, “Come boldly to me”.

Hebrews 2:1  Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let themslip.

The order of the things that you find in Hebrews 4:16 is important, the very first thing is mercy.

Obtain = take – it’s freely given, claim – stake your claim on His mercy, to admit – the love of mercy for us. Mercy is first because it’s pure humility. Jesus says “love mercy”.

Romans 9:23  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

He bestows glory on vessels of mercy, not on vessels of good works or judgement. Vessels of mercy praise the Lord for His grace. You need to take grace to understand mercy. He gives grace to the humble. How? By going to the throne of grace and taking mercy. Natural man isn’t humble – he’s proud. You will never go on fully with God without claiming mercy. Mercy is the extreme opposite of what you deserve.  God took the apostle Paul, the chief of sinners, to display the riches of glory, because it magnifies His grace. The proud do not think they require mercy. He sees the proud afar off (Psalm 138:6).  Don’t be a stiff-necked Christian that never says “I’m sorry” or “I was wrong”. Mercy is always required at the throne of grace. The prodigal son’s brother never left the kingdom and never found grace like his brother who cried, father have mercy on me.

Luke 18:9-14  And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:  10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other menare, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13  And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much ashiseyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justifiedratherthan the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Mercy is humble. Blessed are the merciful. The first trait of the bride is bowels of mercy (Col. 3:12). If your life is becoming cruel, you lack mercy. Without the knowledge of love and mercy, you will never wear the riches of His glory. The lover is not puffed up, edifies the body of Christ, doesn’t accuse the brethren, covers the sins of a brother, and is sincere to take in the word of God. This is all like the Lord. We are being transformed from glory to glory.

The cherubim are a type, a symbol; the four living creatures in Revelation are Jesus’ bride.

The ark was the presence of the Lord. It had a cover called the mercy seat and it was set in the holy of holies. Out of that seat came up two cherubim, their eyes only on mercy, with wings that touched each other. The ark has a crown, the cherubim of the mercy seat is the glory.

When Jesus walked this earth as a man, many cried out to Him for mercy and He healed them. Without mercy there is no grace to abound. When you leave mercy, you will fail. Surrounded with mercy you’ll have joy unspeakable and full of glory. Fruit for the Husband is plentiful. Oh, let it be today that the Lord comes to gather His fruit.
