Bible Text: II Corinthians 6:14-18 |

We are Like What we are Around        December 6, 2015

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
We are loved with God’s love. He is a jealous God because of His love for you. His longing is for you to be completely His. This is a warning, we are a product of our environment. We often become like what we choose to be around. Solomon started out humble but his wives turned his worship to idols. Peter got entangled with the Pharisees and got legal. When yoked with unbelievers they sunk to the level of those around them. You only have strength and power in your life when you yield to the word of God. Fellowship, communion, concord, agreement with God is what He wants.
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
God loves us so much. We are God’s temple, we have the life of Christ in us. God protects that relationship. It’s a privilege and honor to have fellowship with your parents. God dwells in us and walks in us (vs16). There is no fellowship with unbelief. It’s either law or grace, faith or works, God or mammon. Our only place is with God and those that love Him. Don’t waste time. The successes in the bible are those who sought out fellowship in the word of God. They had a real joy. When we play with the world and compromise, we live a life of regret and defeat. Look at Samson and Delilah or Lot and Sodom.
Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
Exodus 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil;
Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
We can think we are going to do as we please, and no one will tell me what to do, but…
Romans 14:7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Our testimonies mean something to others. We can encourage one another.
1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
1 Corinthians 8:12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
Jesus died for you – you mean something. Each of us become the average of the five closest persons we associate with. Experts call this “the rule of five”.
1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
Be transformed to the perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
This is only going to happen when Jesus Christ is your closest friend; when He is the influence in our life. He is so beautiful, so wonderful. Taste and see that the Lord is good. We can talk a good game, but the most important thing in life is follow through. Abide with Him, desire communion with the Lord. Grow up. Don’t waste time. Gather with the saints of God. Go unto Him without the camp. Dwell with Him, we don’t belong in any other place but with God. Fight the good fight of faith. Yoke yourself with believers.
