Bible Text: Jeremiah 15:16 |

We Are What We Eat     June 14, 2015

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
The Lord has given us a passion for the word of His grace. We are what we eat. Naturally we nourish our bodies a certain way to be more healthy. Spiritually we need truth in love, the word of His grace. Feast on the word and it will be our satisfaction. Some Christians are unsatisfied and restless because the word is neglected in their diet. Is your life about satisfying yourself or pleasing God?
Isaiah 55:1-2 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Just show up and let Him do it. The only sustenance for a Christian is the word of God. We live by faith.
1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
As we feed on the word of God we grow. It doesn’t come all at once – its line upon line. Our Father is passionate toward His children. We need to grow now. Seek the Lord while He can be found.
Hebrews 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
He wants you to move on from milk (the beginning principles).
When we feed on the word of God we get experience.
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Little kids can be easily swayed. We need to know the word of God because there are wolves out there in sheep’s clothing. What is required to grow? You need to move on from milk. Feast on the deep things of God. We have been given the exceeding riches. The bridal message.
Hebrews 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
The gospel is simple. You get enlightened eyes of understanding by the Spirit. If you don’t go on in the depths of Paul’s gospel, you won’t grow up.
Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
They wouldn’t hear, they quit eating. The Lord has set a double portion before us but we can refuse it and we will never fully grow up. The Galatians were bewitched and went back to legality. Love the word, be excited about it. Be thankful. The enemy has many tables set with poison to try to kill, steal and destroy; the Lord has only one.
1 Corinthians 3:1-2 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
The biggest reason we turn away from the table of God is pride. Paul had to rebuke Peter. He made it clear works won’t get it done, so why do we feast at the legal table?
Galatians 2:16 . . . for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
If you eat bitterness, you will be bitter. If you sup with winds of doctrine, you will be unstable. What table are you eating at? What is your spiritual diet? Do you go to church for tradition or entertainment, or do you go for knowledge and understanding?
Jeremiah 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
By grace may we eat from His table, desiring the strong meat. Being satisfied with the deep things of God by His Spirit.
