Bible Text: Philippians 3:7-14, Ephesians 4:30-32 |

His Calling                       October 14, 2018

Philippians 3:7-14  But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.  8.  Yea doubtless, and I count all things butloss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them butdung, that I may win Christ,  9.  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:  10.  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;  11.  If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.  12.  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.  13.  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but thisone thing I do,forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,  14.  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Verse 14 translates: I run for the most excellent goal for the glory of the highest embrace of God with Christ Jesus. He’s getting us ready for a meeting in the air.

Philippians = "lover of the horse." It’s a war horse. We are in a battle. The coming of the Lord is nigh. On the final turn the prize is in her sight. As with any race, the final stretch is difficult, but the Bridegroom is in sight. This portion of scripture is all about His call to us to be ready for the appearing of the Lord in the air. This is all by grace.

1 Timothy 2:4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

God help us to not be distracted with the filth of this life. If you are setting who you are on anything in this life, you’ll miss the mark. It’s a narrow way. Vs.13 is the final instruction, forgetting those things behind. The world tries to get us to remember, but you’ve got to forget it. Do you know who you are in Christ? Do you know your calling? You’ve got a better thing. One of the things behind that we should forget, that is defeating so many, is a root of bitterness.

Ephesians 4:30-32  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  31.  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  32.  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

If there be any root of bitterness let God take it away today. There is a cut going on. We have it all, why settle for something less. We are graced beyond. One thing about David that made him so exceptional is he was graced to forget things behind. He took forgiveness from God. Bitterness did not reside in his heart. David was a man after God’s own heart. We can be too. Realize your heart won’t get it done; we need a new heart. Realize we are no good but He is spectacular, and the new heart He gives you will love your brother always, never holding something against them. Are you willing to sacrifice what you could have in eternity because you are not willing to let go of the past? Paul said it is all dung and if you don’t let it go you won’t have the crown I have. It’s all who we are in Christ. God has called us to love one another. Quit sizing each other up and love one another for Christ in them. Just love and pray and let God do the work. The manifestation of the sons of God is coming forth today. Vessels of mercy and grace!
